How to Find the Right Anti-Aging Product

Home >
If you are like so many, finding the right anti-aging product can be a battle! There are so many options, so many ingredients to choose from, where do you start?

First, know your skin type! This can make all the difference in a product that works great or just so-so. Especially if you have problematic skin. You need a product that is going to help keep your pores clean, not clog them. If you don't know your skin type, take the Skin Care Quiz! There are five main types, and each one acts differently. If you have a mature complexion, you're going need moisture with super rich ingredients such as avocado and argan. Whereas a person with an oily complexion is still going to need hydration, but an oil-free gel may be a better solution. And for those of you who are sensitive, "free" products (gluten-free, paraben-free, fragrance-free, petroleum-free, etc.) may be in order.

Second, know what areas you would like to target. This may sound simple, but many anti-aging products just do one thing. So if you need a wrinkle treatment and you have sagging plus discolorations, the chances are that one serum alone may not cut it. Conversely, if you only have a few fine lines and wrinkles around the corner of eyes, you are not going to need a product that does everything from firming to filling in under-eye hollowness to getting rid of dark circles.

Third, learn about the skin care ingredients that are available. This can be so helpful in choosing that perfect product. Because what may work for one person, may not work for another. Plus many anti-aging ingredients and natural botanicals do similar things, and using them in combination can be a winner. For example, take age spots. They can be tough to get rid of. Using a serum with a natural lightener such as lemon or licorice plus an anti-aging peptide such as haloxyl can do wonders for an even skin-tone. This combination may be perfect for you, but someone else with an oily complexion may have better results with a daily exfoliant that contains glycolic acid. Lastly, buy quality products. A quality product will contain all natural ingredients without chemical fillers and synthetic preservatives. You also want to look for a high concentration of the primary ingredients. Because without a significant amount of key ingredients, your product won't give you the results that you are looking for. For a vibrant complexion, anti-aging peptides provide the best and fastest visible results. But check the label and make sure that they are listed close to the beginning of the list. If they are listed at the end, that means there is a little amount. And you would be better off saving your money. Buying a jar of oil at your local natural food store would probably perform better.
