Liver, Age & Brown Spots
Are the backs of your hands giving your age away? As we get older, all those years of sun exposure start to catch up with us.
Usually, in the mid-thirties, they show in the form of liver spots (also called age spots, or more scientifically, solar lentigines) on our hands, arms, chest, and face.
Liver spots are ordinarily harmless, as they are not often signs of melanoma, but that doesn't make them any more attractive to look at.
Fortunately, though, there are natural at-home treatments for liver spots that can help restore the even, youthful look of your skin.
Liver Spots on Your HandsWhy are we so concerned about liver spots on your hands? Well, statistically speaking, your hands and face get the most sun exposure of any part of your body.
Over the years, though, you're much more likely to pay attention to protecting your skin from harmful UV rays than your hands.
As a result, your body will react to this over-exposure by producing more melanin in the skin of your hands. Then flat brown, black, or dark tan spots and splotches will appear, and your hands will appear more aged than the rest of your body and face.
Our hands take a lot of abuse daily, and they get a lot of UV exposure over time. So beyond getting manicures when you want to treat yourself and using moisturizers periodically whenever your hands feel dry, what do you do regularly to take care of your hands and keep them looking youthful?
If you're like most people, the answer is, "Not much." However, you can change that and come away with more youthful-looking. Are the backs of your hands giving your age away? All those years of sun exposure start to catch up with us as we age. They show in the form of liver spots (also called age spots, or more scientifically, solar lentigines) on our hands, arms, chest, and face.

Treating Liver SpotsSevere cases of liver spots may require dermabrasion or laser skin resurfacing treatments. These must be performed at a medical spa or in a dermatologist's office. However, if you have mild to moderate liver spots on your hands or arms, you should be able to treat them yourself. You can use DIY recipes and at home with the help of a few skincare products.
Chemical PeelsA mild to moderate chemical peel will penetrate your skin's top layers and strip away dead skin cells. Because newer liver spots only affect the very top layers of skin and haven't had time to set in reality. A chemical peel can often break up the skin cells, that the overproduction of melanin has darkened.
After performing a peel, you'll need to take extra care of your hands for a few days. First, make sure to keep them out of the sun at all times. If you have to go outside, wear gloves or a high-SPF sunblock, especially for the first few days, as the new skin cells can have premature aging from sun exposure.
A Dark Spot Corrector
If a chemical peel does not lift the liver spots, you may still be able to use an at-home dark spot corrector to improve your skin's look and texture.
Our Ageless Serum and Liquid Facelift both contain ingredients proven to help fade dark spots and correct pigmentation without the need for laser surgery or dermabrasion.
This is excellent news for people with sensitive skin or with dark skin tones. Microdermabrasion and laser treatments risk scarring or bleaching skin, resulting in uneven, blotchy skin tones.
Try one of our dark spot correctors to treat the liver spots on the back of your hands. For ultra stubborn spots, you may need IPL laser treatment. With just a few sessions, rays of light break up the dark pigment.
