How to Make a Serum with Boosters

Please read the entire page before using it! We are not responsible for any results from the use or misuse of anti-aging ingredients, serum boosters, and other actives.

Serum Boosters and other cosmetic ingredients are non-returnable.

If you have sensitive skin, it is recommended to do a test on a patch of skin before adding the component to any formula or other product.

  • When you receive your DIY item, place it in the fridge until you are ready to use it.
  • Do not use directly on your skin!
  • Each DIY product needs to be incorporated into an existing serum, cream, lotion, or create a formula from scratch. Please note that each DIY product has a specific use recommendation (percentage of product to be used) from the manufacturer. Below is a guide to help you add the correct amount to your product.

*Please note that all calculations are approximate. You can also watch our video series on how to make custom skincare products.

Instructions for Mixing your Serum Boosters

To add to an existing product:
Add DIY ingredient to your current product, blend or shake well. Place any remaining DIY Serum Booster in the fridge. You do NOT need to refrigerate the product that you have added the Serum Boosters to.

When making any cosmetic or skincare products, it is helpful to have these items on hand:

  • Hand blender
  • Pyrex or glass bowl with a spout
  • Funnel
  • Spatula
  • Sanitizer
  • Gloves

Bases

Choose your base. We offer multiple bulk bases: Hyaluronic Acid, Rejuvenating Anti-Aging Serum or Regenerating Facial Cream Base. You can also use your favorite serum or lotion. If this is your first time mixing, making small batches is best.

After you get the hang of it and know what works well, then try larger quantities. Determine which peptides you would like to add and how much concentration of the serum booster you will need to add.

Please refer to your chart included in the bubble wrap pouch with your Serum Booster. Add the Serum Booster. Mix until well blended. Place a funnel inside an empty, airless bottle then pour the formulation into the container.

How do I know how much of a serum booster do I add?
The recommended usage information from the manufacturer is located on the bottle. You can also find it on each product page on our website.

See charts below for amounts to add. For example, if you have a 2 oz jar of the moisturizer and you would like to add a 10% concentration of Matrixyl, add 1 Teaspoon and stir with a sterile mixer until blended.

Which Serum Booster Should I Use?

We offer 30 plus Serum Boosters.
To determine what peptides to use, we offer an easy-to-follow chart.
For more information on peptides and which ones will work best, you can view our anti-aging peptides chart.

Are there any Cosmetic Ingredients that shouldn’t be used together?
The main ingredients to stay away from are Copper Peptide and Vitamin C, which should not be used jointly.

For Formulators Only: For use in your recipe, mix phases A and B, let cool, then add your DIY ingredient. Stir until well blended. Place into an airtight container and put any remaining product in the fridge.

Adding an Antimicrobial or Preservative to your Formula

To add Leucidal® Liquid to your product:
Add a 4% concentration of Leucidal® Liquid to your recipe at the end of the formulation or during the cooling phase. The Leucidal® Liquid should be incorporated when the temperature is below 70 degrees Celsius or 158 degrees Fahrenheit.

To add Leucidal® Complete:
Follow the same instructions as the Leucidal® Liquid. Leucidal® Complete can be hazy. It is best to add when the container of the product is 35-40 degrees Celsius. Incorporate into your formulations until clear or completely dissolved.

As with all formulas being placed on the market, we recommend every recipe undergo challenge testing.

Directions for chart:
Determine the concentration you will be using. Manufacturer recommendations are listed on each Serum Booster Label. Determine the size of your base. The base is the product you will be adding the booster to. You can use any product such as a serum, cream, or moisturizer.

You can also use one of our premade bases like Ultra Hyaluronic Acid. Then use the chart to get the correct amount needed.

For a 10% concentration using a .5 ounce base of eye cream, you would add 45 drops of desired Serum Booster. Mix until well blended or shake.

How to use the Chart
Locate the percentage of the Serum Booster you are using in the left column. Then, find the amount of base you are using in the bright green row. Determine how many drops you need from where the column and row intersect. Add this amount to your formula.

Helpful Conversions:

5 oz. = 15 ml = 1 Tablespoon = 3 Teaspoons
1 Teaspoon = 100 drops
1/2 Teaspoon = 50 drops
1/4 Teaspoon = 25 drops
1/8 Teaspoon = 12.5 drops

For Powder Conversions:
Just add in the desired amount of powder desired. We recommend using a digital scale. However, you can quickly convert grams to teaspoons. There are 5 grams in one teaspoon.

5 oz. = 15 grams
1%= .15 grams
2%= .30 grams
3%= .45 grams
5%= .75 grams
10%= 1.5 grams

1 oz. = 30 grams
1%= .30 grams
2%= .6 grams
3%= .9 grams
5%= 1.5 grams
10%= 3 grams

2 oz. = 60 grams
1%= .6 grams
2%= 1.20 grams
3%= 1.80 grams
5%= 3 grams
10%= 6 grams

Tips for a Successful Product

1. Sanitize your work area and all utensils. This includes any surface and any item that may come into contact with your formula or serum booster.
Watch our Beauty Blending 101 video for tips on how to sanitize your work area.

2. Measure accurately. Using drops is recommended for adding your serum booster to an existing product. If you are creating a custom formula, use a scale for accurate measurement.

3. Use the right amount of active ingredient, especially the preservative! Using less than the recommended amount of a preservative can cause preservation problems and will not be as effective as it should. Use the manufacturers recommended guidelines for making a successful product.

4. Watch our videos for a visual reference on how to create a custom product.

Instant Wrinkle Eraser Instructions:

Choose the concentration of each ingredient you would like to use. We recommend that you play around with the Sodium Silicate and Magnesium Aluminum Silicate Powder. The Sodium Silicate can have a very natural feel when using a little. On the other end of the spectrum, use a high concentration, and your face will feel like it can't move.

Place one drop of Sodium Silicate into a Pyrex bowl filled with a half-ounce of water and stir. Apply this solution to clean skin. Add more Sodium Silicate until you reach the desired effect. Next, add in the Magnesium powder following the same instructions. A handheld blender may be needed to mix until smooth. You can find powder conversions above.

We recommend adding 1/8 teaspoon for a 1% concentration to the .5 ounce of water.

If you are using Argireline, we recommend adding a concentration of 8%. If not, skip this step.

Now you have the concentrations that you will use. You can use the above mixture as your final product. Store it in the fridge for a few days, any longer, and you will need to add a preservative. You can also add the ingredients to any ready-made eye cream, serum, or moisturizer you may already have on hand.
