How to Add a Serum Booster Video Tutorial

Before beginning, ensure your work area and all supplies are sanitized. Please watch our Beauty Blending 101 video before you start. This will show you exactly how to do this.

Hi! We're the DIY divas. This is my good friend, Tanya. This is my best friend, Karen. Today, we will learn how to add a DIY ingredient or Serum Booster to your own product.

First, you'll need to sanitize your work area and your supplies. If you're unsure of all the steps involved, see our video Beauty Blending 101.

Okay, so first, grab your product and your DIY anti-aging ingredient. Today, we're going to use a Copper Peptide Serum Booster. We'll add that you can use any DIY supplies at Skin Perfection.

You should get an instruction sheet when you order our DIY products. That will guide you and tell you how much product to use for each specific amount of product that you'll be putting in.

Okay, so first, you'll open up your product, which I just did. Set your booster carefully aside. Then, I'm going to add the Copper Peptide.

How to Use the Serum Booster Chart

When I look at the table on the chart, I look at the concentration to add; it says one and a half drops. So, I'm going to do that. So, there goes one and a half. Okay, that's done now.

Now, take your lid and ensure you tightly secure it back into place.

Then you'll want to give it a good shake. If you're adding a DIY ingredient to a cream product, you want to ensure that you stir it. Please ensure that whatever you use, your utensil is sterilized before you put it in and start to stir until well blended. That's how easy it is. Now, you have your own product with your DIY ingredients.

More Ideas

We have plenty of moisturizers and serums for you to choose from in our store! In this video, we will add Copper Peptide to one of our serums.

When you order a DIY ingredient from us, we include a chart that tells you how to add your desired concentration; it explains how you should add so many teaspoons or drops depending on the strength and the amount of product the ingredient is being added to.

Once you have determined the amount of the peptide needed, add it directly to your serum or moisturizer. Once you have added the peptide, put the lid back on the product and give it a good shake to ensure the ingredient is blended well.

If you add the ingredient to a product with more of a cream base, use a handheld blender or spatula to stir the component throughout (but make sure whatever tool you use is sterilized before it touches your product!)

It's that simple!

Adding a serum booster is easy! It gives your beauty products the boost they need to be effective and amazing! After those few steps, you have created your personalized skincare product!

How to Add a Serum Booster to a Base

First, choose a base.

Next, determine which peptides you will use. Then, determine the concentration that you want to use. Each peptide has a recommended concentration that can be found on the product label or product page. Next, measure your base and add it to a glass Pyrex bowl. Then, add in the correct amount of peptides.

Finally, blend with a hand blender for two minutes. Then, pour the mixture into an airless bottle.

Frequently Asked Questions about Serum Boosters

How do I use the peptides?

At the end of the formulation, add the desired amount of drops of the anti-aging peptide to your product. Lid and shake well.

How much of the Anti-Aging Peptide do I add?

The product label will tell you the manufacturer's guidelines. For example, let's look at Matrixyl 3000. The manufacturer recommends using it at a 3-8% rate.

We recommend using the highest concentrations at Skin Perfection for the fastest results.

You can also find this information directly on the product page.

Can I add a few drops to my skincare product?

The only way to ensure that you are using the correct amount recommended by the manufacturer is to add the right amount to your base. We do not recommend adding a few drops to your skincare product daily. Here's why:

  • You may be wasting product
  • You won't know the exact concentration
  • Some aggressive ingredients can irritate if used in too high of a concentration

What do you recommend mixing the Serum Boosters with?

For home formulators, we recommend our Ultra Hyaluronic Acid. This Hyaluronic Acid uses silver as the preservative.

You can add as many peptides to this base as you would like and add up to 40% additional water-based ingredients without adding another preservative.

You can also use water-based products such as water, hydrosols, aloe vera, etc.

Can I add peptides to my facial oil serum?

No, peptides are water-soluble. Therefore, they will not dissolve in an oil-based product.

Is it less expensive to make your own skincare products?

Yes, it is less expensive to make your own.

Is it cheaper to make my own, or is it best to buy something like the Expression Line Serum?

It is less expensive to make your own skincare products. However, buying a ready-made serum may be more cost-effective if you only make a tiny batch with many different peptides.

Are your peptides from China?

No, our quality peptides are from the same manufacturers all major cosmetic companies use. The peptides are imported from the United States, Spain, France, Switzerland, etc.

We do not buy peptides from China because they can add toxic fillers. We have even found that some types of ink used may contain lead—no, thank you!

You can find where each peptide or ingredient is sourced on the product page.

Can I combine all of the peptides into a single skincare product?

Yes, all the peptides can use multiple peptides in a formula. For example, you can use one, eleven, or more peptides. The choice is yours.

Are some very similar and don't need to be added together?

You can check our peptide chart to see what peptides work similarly. Choose one peptide from each column for a well-rounded formula that targets the signs of aging. You may choose more than one peptide from a category if you specifically target a specific skin condition. For example, using Argireline and Snap 8 would be a great choice to target Crow's Feet. For smoothing vertical wrinkles, Syn-Ake would be an excellent choice.

Do some peptides negate each other?

Copper Peptide, Vitamin C, and Retinol are the only ingredients that you shouldn't use together.

What do you recommend I add to body lotion? Mainly my arms and chest have some wrinkles from the sun.

You can use the same peptides in both your face and body formulas—for example, firming peptides and antioxidants. Below are examples of the premium ingredients you can choose from.

Skin Firming Peptides

Age Reverse for Younger-Looking Skin

Antioxidants from Natural Botanicals

Do I use peptides as a spot treatment or all over my face? Are muscle relaxers like Argireline and Snap 8 better used in specific areas only?

All peptides may be used as a spot treatment, or you can use them all over the face and neck. It's really up to you and what your skin needs.

I have sensitive skin. Can I use peptides?

Peptides are an excellent choice for sensitive skin. Most people tolerate them very well. Typically, it's the added fillers, chemicals, fragrances, or preservatives in a cosmetic that people are sensitive to. However, it is always best to do a patch test on your inner arm if you have sensitive skin.

Where do I get an MSDS sheet?

There is a link to the MSDS on each product ingredient page, or you can access them on our MSDS page.
