DIY Sugar Scrub Recipes

DIY brown sugar body scrubs can be oh-so-simple to make, and most of the time, everyone has the ingredients already available in their pantry cupboards. So here is a collection of brown sugar scrubs you can use on your body and lips.

Many people find salt body scrubs harsh or irritating, so if this applies to you, the best solution is a brown sugar scrub instead! If you have dry skin, a salt scrub can end up with a burning sensation (like pouring salt on a new cut).

Please be aware that sugar is the primary cause of yeast overgrowth, linked to many skin problems, like acne, rosacea, atopic dermatitis, 'chicken skin,' etc. So with this in mind, perhaps limit how often you use this scrub if any of these conditions apply to your face, and don't apply them to your body too often.

NOTE: When using these Body Scrubs in the shower, be careful, as the oil will make your shower slippery! So take care!

DIY Honey Brown Sugar Body, Face, and Lip Sugar Scrub

The brown sugar exfoliates the skin. Lemon juice contains natural alpha-hydroxy acids that also aid in exfoliating and will help lighten the darkening caused by sun damage. Olive oil is a natural emollient and will both soften and moisturize skin. Honey also aids in moisturizing, but it's the best benefit as an antioxidant; it helps protect from harm caused by free radicals and premature aging.

Ingredients:

  • 4 tsp. Brown Sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. Lemon Juice
  • 1/4 tsp. Olive Oil
  • 1/4 tsp. Honey
  • Empty glass jar cleaned thoroughly. (Use whatever container you have handy that seals well.)

Directions:

  1. In a dish, mix all ingredients until just combined.
  2. Spoon into a jar or container with a lid.
