How to Make Toxin-free, Homemade Non-Petroleum Jelly- Skin Perfection Natural and Organic Skin Care

Why Mineral Oil is Bad

I am sure you have heard of Vaseline. It’s mineral oil. It’s also a by-product of refined oil. Refining oil consists of taking crude oil and what is leftover from the refining process is mineral oil. Sounds lovely. Skincare companies and the Beauty industry have used mineral oil because it is super cheap.

Yes, it does hold in moisture, almost to the point of suffocating. Mineral oil doesn’t let the skin breathe. It tends to clog pores. Mineral oil is not suitable for those with acne, as it can perpetuate breakouts. Plus, it can strip your skin of its natural oils. It has no beneficial nutrients; nothing is keeping it healthy.

There are just so many better options available with innate goodness. We don’t need to be plastering our babies with crude oil byproducts. So what’s the alternative? Simple. Make your non-petroleum jelly. A petroleum-free gel derived from plant-based ingredients.

A version that is useful in helping the skin’s moisture barrier and nourishes a baby’s bum. I can’t live without non-petroleum jelly. My lips are severely dry in the wintertime despite my best attempts to drink gallons of water. I use it nightly on my lips for intensive lip treatment. Nothing holds in the moisture better. I wake up with soft, silky lips that stay hydrated.

Non-petroleum jelly is a natural skin care product that is super simple to make. It uses no water. Therefore, you do not need to add a preservative — just a couple of excellent organic oils and a few drops of essential oil.

For this recipe, you will need:
  • Glass Pyrex bowl with a spout.
  • Stick Blender.
  • Sanitizer.
  • Container. Any container will do; lip balm tins are great.
  • Organic Oils: Castor and Lavandula.
  • Essential Oils: Lavender and Vanilla.

Toxin-free Recipe:

  • 1 ounce Castor Oil.
  • 1 ounce Lavendula Oil.
  • 3 drops Essential Oils.

Directions:

In the Pyrex glass bowl, mix the Caster and Lavandula oil until well blended. About 2 minutes. Next, add the drops of essential oils and blend. Then, pour the mixture into the container. Let this sit until firm. Screw the lid in place.

What is Castor Oil?

Castor oil is a thick, heavy oil that conditions the skin. It provides a protective barrier that shields the skin from water loss. It is very nourishing, especially for those with dry skin. The vegetable oil is expressed from the seeds. Castor oil is commonly found in cosmetics, skincare, haircare, and baby products.

What is Lavendula Oil?

Lavendula oil is a base oil infused with lavender essential oils.
