Alpha Arbutin

Alpha arbutin is derived from the leafs of the Bearberry plant. It is becoming one of the most popular ingredients in modern cosmetics and skin care. Especially in lightening and brightening anti-aging products. The berry that alpha arbutin is extracted from is a bright red, sweet berry and is fantastic to eat. It is found in temperate climates and grows for a good part of the year. For centuries, many cultures have used it in natural medicine applications. It's even a natural food supply for bears. The main active ingredient in this berry is alpha arbutin, which at its core is a skin brightener and lightener. Juicy bearberry contains alpha arbutin, a natural skin lightener.

Who doesn't want a more even-toned complexion? As we age, you have probably seen dark spots cropping up. Brown circles, age or liver spots, no matter what you call them, they can be seen on the hands, arms, back, legs, and face. Cheeks are often the most common areas of the face they appear. This is due to sun exposure. These spots are sometimes referred to as liver spots. Overexposure causes from the sun can cause age spots. At times, age spots may not appear until later in life. However, the damage from the sun exposure happens before the age of 18. No matter what you call them, age spots are tough to get rid of. This is where skin lighteners and brighteners come in. These ingredients are specially formulated to lessen the appearance of these dark spots over time.

Overexposure to the sun is the leading cause of pigmentation. When we flush, that is an increased amount of blood, and the surface appears red. Increased consumption of carotenoids (from carrots, for example), can cause yellow or orange the pigmentation of our skin. The tan or brown color of your face comes from increased melanin, which can occur as a result of genetics.  Brown areas can also appear because of excess sun exposure. Along with melanin comes another substance, however, called tyrosinase. This is a component of our skin that works similarly to the melanin. Tyrosinase causes darkening of the skin when the sun hits it. Alpha Arbutin blocks Tyrosinase activity, and then it helps reduce the skin’s melanin production. Unlike getting a suntan, the dark spots these tyrosinases cause rarely fade over time.

Alpha arbutin steps in to block that tyrosinase from developing into a dark spot. It is quickly and easily absorbed into the skin, where it reacts with the tyrosinase, reducing its effect. In clinical trials, alpha arbutin products have performed much better than other skin lighteners and brighteners. This is good news for women who want to reduce the appearance of age spots naturally. Hydroquinone is a prescription skin lightener that is available from a dermatologist. Many women have shied away from using it because it has been known to contain carcinogens.
