The Ultimate Anti-Aging Skincare Routine
When it comes to the aging process, you may think that you’re at the mercy of your genetics. Some people seem to age incredibly gracefully, while others have wrinkled, sagging skin when they reach their 30s. While genetics play a role in how quickly your face ages, you can help yourself greatly with the right anti-aging routine.
If you follow these tips to cleanse and care for your face every day, you’ll notice significant improvements in the firmness of your skin, the evenness of your complexion, and your overall look.
With very little time and effort, you can turn back the clock on your face. And it all starts with proper washing every morning.
Wake Up and Cleanse
Whether you shower at night or in the morning when you wake up each day, you need to wash your face with a mild cleanser formulated for your skin type. Do you have oily or dry skin? Is it sensitive? Patchy? Look for a natural, organic facial cleanser that will work with your complexion.
Using a soft washcloth and warm water, very lightly rub the product into your skin in upward circular motions. After you wash and rinse your face, use a soft towel to dab your face dry. To further clean and constrict your pores, you may want to use an astringent at this point, too.
Now it’s time to moisturize and lock in hydration for the day.
Choose the Best Serum and Moisturizer for Your Skin
Like your cleanser, you should use a daily serum and moisturizer that’s formulated for your skin type. If you have dehydrated skin, you may want to use both a serum and a moisturizer. Because the serum will penetrate deep into your skin and hold water there, while the moisturizer will create a barrier to the air, preventing too much evaporation.
If, on the other hand, you have oily skin, you may want to use a water-based serum on its own to keep your skin looking dewy without getting greasy throughout the day. With a little trial and error, you can find the perfect moisturizer or serum for your skin to give you all-day hydration and protection for your complexion.
Never Leave Home Without SPF
If you’re going outside during the day, always use a high-SPF sunblock to protect your face from harmful UVA and UVB rays. Sun exposure is one of the worst perpetrators of aging skin that we know of, but you can avoid harming and aging your skin with something as simple as slathering on some sunscreen and wearing a brimmed hat when you head outside.
Always Cleanse and Moisturize Before Bed
When the day is over, you may want to do nothing more than flop in bed and turn the lights out until morning. However, before you start counting sheep, you must cleanse your face again. Even if you don’t wear makeup, your face comes in contact with many dirt, grease, oils, and debris throughout the day.
These can age you, and they can cause acne breakouts and blemishes, too. Before you call it a day, you will need to cleanse and moisturize your face again. Instead of your daytime serum or moisturizer, you may also want to choose a good night cream, anti-aging treatment serum, or moisturizer to help keep your face hydrated as you sleep.
This daily routine will keep your complexion looking healthy and gorgeous for years to come. Remember to see a skin care specialist regularly. Appointments with a dermatologist or esthetician for microdermabrasion, chemical peels, or other “special occasion” facial treatments can help fight the signs of aging.
Between these and your daily and nightly routine, you’ll be amazed at how you can defy the effects of aging on your face. It's best to switch your product lineup of a cleanser, toner, serum, and moisturizer from time to time when the seasons change.
