Beneficial Honey In Skincare

Beauty Solutions with HoneyEWG Rating
EWG beauty review
Scientific Name: {Honey Bee—Apis mellifera}

The ancient Egyptians first used honey as a skin treatment and help with cuts and blemishes. It was not until recently that studies reveal honey’s naturally antibacterial and antioxidant powers.

And because it is so readily available and so easy to use, organic, raw honey is an excellent addition to any skincare regimen. The enzymes, vitamins, and unrefined sugars contain fight acne, aging, and inflammation, for one of the most effective, most unexpected beauty solutions.

As an antibacterial agent, honey can moisturize the skin without clogging pores and eliminate the bacteria from the skin that causes acne. In addition to bacteria, the skin’s oils are what cause pimples to occur.

By moisturizing the skin properly, it can produce less of its oil, and there is less of a likelihood that a blemish will develop. Honey nourishes the skin, allowing cell structures to become more elastic and pliable. The face is better able to hold its moisture, which also keeps the skin from becoming oily.

Because it is such a great moisture source, it can even be used to strengthen and moisturize dry, brittle, and broken hair. It will both nourish the scalp, helping to get rid of dandruff. Plus, sealing individual shafts of hair so that they appear shinier and are more resistant to falling out and split ends.

The antioxidant not only protects the skin from the effects of the sun’s rays. It can also restore the skin's underlying layers, often causing lines, wrinkles, and age spots. By fighting free radicals, honey prolongs your cells' life, keeping the complexion looking fresh and bright.

By providing proper moisture and retaining an adequate level, honey can keep skin looking young and vibrant. When mixed with an organic salt, it can slough away dead skin while hydrating.

Combined with other natural emollients, it can help to rescue complexions and severely damaged hair.

Before using any product that contains honey, test a small patch of skin to ensure you are allergic to it. Honey is a natural preservative and anti-inflammatory agent. It is excellent for sensitive skin, which might react badly to cosmetic companies' artificial ingredients as fillers in their products. Make sure that your honey products are made only with raw, natural honey.
