DIY Dry Shampoo Recipe

Did you know that most people think they need to wash their hair every day? But that is just not true. Overwashing it can make it feel dryer and look dull.

Your best bet is to wash your hair a few times a week.

So what do you do on the other days? First, use a dry shampoo that contains cornstarch.

Cornstarch is oil-absorbing; it makes your hair look clean and non-greasy.

You can also alternate with just using conditioner every other day so that your hair is left looking healthy, soft, and manageable. Remember to use a creamy, moisturizing soap on the days you wash.

Those with scalp problems, such as flakes or dandruff, may need to wash their hair daily. They concentrate on the scalp and look for invigorating essential oils like Peppermint, Tea Tree, and Myrrh.

This is an excellent alternative if you have chemically treated, dry, or damaged hair (primarily if bleach is used). And remember to get a trim every four to six weeks.

For those with hair loss, shampooing every day is just too harsh. In addition, shampoo can cause hair follicles to become loose and fall out.

Using a natural, chemical-free, dry shampoo is a great alternative to keep your scalp healthy and nourished.

Making DIY Organic Hair Care Products

At some point in our lives, we all need to style our hair. But what have we all been putting on our tresses all these years? If you want to DIY some hair care and hair styling products, this is the article.

Not only are they easy to make, but you also can rest easy that you aren't destroying your hair in the process.

DIY Ideas For Cleansing Hair

Baking Soda

Baking soda is an incredible organic product for cleansing your scalp. Simple water and baking soda mixture can work wonders as a detox (and work as an alternative to shampoo) when switching from commercial products to natural ones. Who doesn't want to get rid of that hard, sticky build-up of waxes, gels, and hair sprays? This 100% natural cleanser works wonderfully.

Recipe
Mix half a cup of baking soda with three cups of warm filtered water. Pour the mixture over your scalp and hair in the shower. Distribute it equally throughout your hair using your fingers and rub it gently on the scalp. Rinse your hair using warm water until it is grit-free.

Use Caution

Doing this every time you wash your hair might cause dryness. However, women with oily scalp are recommended to use this recipe several times a week to make their mane shiny and sparkly clean.

Moroccan and Rhassoul Clay

Although it might sound a little off-the-grid, clays make great cleansing products. Trust me. I didn't come up with the idea. Bentonite clay has been used since the time of the ancient Greeks to treat many skin problems.

Clay is inexpensive but also filled with minerals and vitamins. Although it is not always easy for some women to get past the "NO bubbles" issue, you might no longer care about studs once you've tried Moroccan Rhassoul clay.

Recipe For shoulder-length hair

  • Distilled Water
  • Clay

Make a thin paste by mixing the clay with distilled water.

Spread it all over your scalp and cover your hair with plastic wrap. Rinse your hair thoroughly after about 10 minutes. You can use it five to six times a month.

Ingredients for Conditioning

Bananas

Mashed bananas are touted as one of the best hair conditioners. Reportedly, even Dr. Oz couldn't resist doing a show on its many benefits. Bananas come with potassium that softens your hair.

It also contains Vitamin E, A, B, and C. In addition, the natural oils present in the fruit help the elasticity of your hair and prevent split ends.

Avocados

Avocado is probably one of those very few fruits used in almost every other commercial skincare and hair product for its outstanding moisturizing and hydrating properties.

If you have dry hair, avocados are ideal for you.

Recipe for Dry Hair

  • 1 Avocado (very ripe)
  • 1/2 Teaspoon of Olive Oil

Toss the avocado in a blender with 1/2 teaspoon olive oil. Mix until good blender, and no clumps are present.

Avocados can sometimes be hard to wash out of hair, but you can avoid this hassle by blending the fruit into a smooth paste. Again, olive oil helps a lot.

Spread the mixture on your scalp using your fingers, and wrap your hair with a plastic wrap to seal in your body heat. Leave it in for a few minutes. If you want to deep condition your hair, leave the mask for 2 to 3 hours.

Then, wash it out using a mild cleanser to keep your hair healthy and shiny for days.

Yogurt

Who doesn't hate those annoying frizzy hair days? The lactic acid in yogurt is the perfect antidote. For all the curly heads out there, it isn't always easy to bring manageability. Yogurt is your best friend.

It not only conditions your hair but also temporarily loosens your curls.

DIY Hair Tonic

Here is a simple hair tonic formula using GHK Copper Peptide Powder.

  • 1 Ounce Rose Hydrosol
  • 1 Ounce Witch Hazel
  • 1 Teaspoon Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1/8 Teaspoon Copper Peptide Powder
  • 10-15 drops Essential Oils - if desired (we recommend rosemary, lavender, peppermint, and chamomile)

Add hydrosol, witch hazel, and apple cider vinegar together, add powders, and dissolve for 5 to 10 minutes. Add essential oils if needed. Mix. Pour into a spray bottle using a funnel, then lid. Shake well before each use. Spritz onto the scalp once a day.

If you prefer a glass dropper bottle, add the formula with a funnel and use a few drops on the scalp daily.

Variations to help with thinning hair, add Myristoyl Peptapeptide-17 and Myristoyl Hexapeptide-16 at a 5% concentration.

For Styling

Beach Waves Spray

Sea salt spray, second to dry shampoo, is probably the most utilized hair product and is incredibly easy to make. The following recipe is 100% natural and costs you approximately 1/50th of the commercial, store-bought versions.

In addition, you can easily customize it, considering your hair type.

Natural DIY Dry Shampoo Recipe

Ingredients

  • Hot water One cup (You can also use Chamomile Tea instead of water if you want to lighten your hair or black tea if you're going to make your hair darker than it already is)
  • Sea Salt Half teaspoon
  • Epsom salts Two tablespoons (You can add more for additional texture)
  • Aloe Vera gel One teaspoon
  • Organic Conditioner Half teaspoon

Optional

A spritz of your favorite scent/perfume or a couple of drops of essential oils. Citrus and lavender are some excellent options. You can also add a teaspoon of vodka and lemon juice to lighten your hair.

Directions

Take a spray bottle that can hold more than ten ounces. Put the hot water/tea into it and add sea salt, Epson salt, conditioner, Aloe Vera, lemon juice, alcohol/vodka, and scent.

Put the cap on and shake the mixture for two minutes until the salts are completely dissolved. You can store the mix in the fridge for future usage. It will last you for about four months.

Then, spray it on your damp hair and dry it for loose beach waves. You can also use it to add volume and texture to your hair.

2. Curl Moisturizing Spray

You can keep your curls, kinks, or coils refreshed with a perfect balance of Aloe Vera and distilled water. Then, add a couple of drops of tea tree oil or peppermint oil to the mixture to soothe your scalp and get your hair ready to take on the day.

3. Curl Defining Gel

This gel is perfect if you are looking for ways to define your hair's natural texture.

Recipe

  • 2 Tablespoons of Flax Seeds
  • 2 Cups of Water
  • Aloe Vera (2 ounces) + 2-3 drops of essential oil for a lovely scent (both optional)

Directions

  1. In a small pot, bring the water to a boil. Once boiling, add the flax seeds and let simmer for 10 minutes - stirring frequently.
  2. Once simmered, remove from the heat and immediately pour the mixture through a strainer (with a bowl underneath).
  3. If you want to add the aloe vera- do it now while the mixture is still warm. You will add the essential oil once the gel has cooled.
  4. Wash your pot, filter, and utensils immediately.
  5. Once the gel has cooled completely, pour it into a clean jar. It will keep in the fridge for 1-2 weeks. If you'd like to keep bits of it for longer- you can also freeze it.
