First, the honest part
A topical peptide is a cosmetic. Botox is a prescription injectable regulated as a drug. They are not the same category, they do not work the same way, and a cosmetic serum cannot change how long an injection lasts. Anyone telling you otherwise is selling you something.
What a peptide serum can do is sit in your routine as a daily step focused on the look of fine lines and expression lines — including in the weeks when your injections are wearing off and you are waiting on your next appointment. That is a scheduling benefit and a cosmetic one, not a pharmacological one.
The peptides people mean by “Botox extenders”
Peptides are short chains of amino acids. The group discussed here — Argireline, Argireline Amplified, SNAP-8 and SYN-AKE — are studied in relation to the SNARE complex, the protein assembly involved in neurotransmitter release. That is the published mechanism the supplier research describes, and it is why these four get grouped together.
Argireline (Acetyl Hexapeptide-8)
The best known of the group. Supplier research on Argireline examines its interaction with the SNARE complex and reports measurements on the appearance of expression lines, particularly around the eyes and mouth. Argireline Amplified is a higher-strength presentation of the same peptide.
SNAP-8 (Acetyl Octapeptide-3)
An eight-amino-acid elongation of the Argireline sequence, developed by the same manufacturer and studied on the same SNARE mechanism. It is typically discussed for the forehead, eye area and around the mouth.
SYN-AKE (Dipeptide Diaminobutyroyl Benzylamide Diacetate)
A synthetic peptide whose structure was modelled on a component of temple viper venom. There is no venom in it and never has been — the molecule is made in a lab. It is studied for the appearance of lines between the brows, sometimes called the “11s”.
What the research measures — and what it does not
The studies behind these ingredients are supplier efficacy studies, most of them measuring the appearance of lines using instrumental imaging and panellist self-assessment. We hold the licensed dossiers for the Lipotec peptides we sell, which is why we describe what those studies measured rather than making up numbers.
What those studies do not establish: that a topical peptide relaxes or paralyses a muscle, that it changes the duration of an injectable, or that it is equivalent to a medical procedure. We are not going to claim any of that, because it is not what the data shows.
How to actually use them
- Twice daily, morning and night, before moisturiser.
- On the areas that crease when you move — forehead, around the eyes, between the brows, smile lines.
- Give it four to six weeks. Peptides are cumulative. Nothing happens overnight.
- They layer fine with hyaluronic acid, vitamin C and most other actives.
- Patch test first, as with any new product.
